Healing from emotional scars can be overwhelming and even exhausting. It takes a lot of hard work to look within and allow healing to take place. Just like a physical wound is painful during the healing phase, so are emotional wounds. Self care can assist with soothing that pain.
Self care is crucial to overall well being. It helps you to reset and recharge from stress, grief and even trauma. It has been clinically proven to reduce anxiety, depression, and stress, among other benefits. Self care involves nurturing your whole self, including your inner self. Let’s take a look at what strategies you can use to help in the healing process.
Strategies for Self Care
Practice Being in the Present Moment
We oftentimes are either so busy planning for the future or ruminating on the past that we forget to live in the present moment. When we are in the present moment, we can acknowledge our feelings and let them be. This helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
Make Connections with Others
When we’ve been wounded, it’s easy to isolate. It’s very important while healing to reach out to others and be connected through relationships.
Give Yourself Grace
Allow yourself to be human and pay attention to how you talk to yourself. If you wouldn’t say it to a friend then don’t say it to yourself. Be kind to yourself and give yourself grace. God gives you grace, give that same grace to YOU! You are important and valuable. Aim to learn that through your healing process.
Turn the News Off
News can be very triggering and this includes news on social media platforms. I encourage you to limit your time taking in news around the world. Do something fun instead!
Start a Gratitude Journal
Noticing gratitude can shift your attitude and help release stress. It can help you focus on what is going right in your life versus what is going wrong, even if it’s as simple as being thankful for having something to drink or fresh air to breath today. A gratitude journal can help you keep track of all things you are grateful for today.
Your emotional and mental health care needs attention to help you stay healthy, relieve stress and ease the healing process. I encourage you to start a self care routine and see how your life changes. Grab my journal, Self Care for the Soul, on Amazon and take daily steps to your healing.
